Turnpike Rovers was Founded in 1981.  The first committee comprised Chairman/Tony Gilmartin, Secretary/Brian McCarthy, Treasurer/George Guilfoyle, PRO/John Pyne & Manager/Michael Frawley.

In their first season Turnpike Rovers reached the Division 2 Shield final but were beaten by Newtown B in the final 4 - 2. They finished third in the Division 2 league in 1983/84 & won the Division 1 Shield final beating Rhine Rovers 1 - 0.  In 1985 they won the Newmarket & Rinneanna Tournaments.  In 1986 they finished 3rd in the Division 1 league.  In 1987 they just missed out in promotion to the Premier division being beaten in a play-off.

Turnpike Rovers have always had a good run in the Haughey Cup and in 1986 Newmarket Celtic "A" beat them in the 1/4 Final stage after a replay.  The club ran a Tournament each year and past winners include: - Syntex, Kilmaley & Newmarket "B".  On the social scene the club organised a female personality contest over the years and the winners have been Bridie Roche & Maura Brooks.

1992/93 - Munster Junior Cup Clare Area Final
1996/97 - FAI Junior Cup Clare Area & Division 1 Shield

Youths:
Turnpike Rovers have had a youths team since 1981.  The first managers were Francie Roche & Martin Guerin.  In their first 2 seasons they were not very successful at this level.  However in the 1983/84 season John Pyne took charge as manager and in his first season in charge captured the youths league, shield & FAI youths Clare area. The team had a great run in the FAI competition outside of Clare.  They beat Oldbridge (Clonmel) 2 - 1 after a replay.  They beat TEK (Dublin) 1 - 0 in Dublin.  They were eventually beaten at the 1/4 final stage 4 - 1 by Athlone in St Mel's Park who were the eventual winners that year.  

Youths Club Honours:
1984/85 - Youth league & Newmarket Tournament
1985/86 - Clare area FAI Youths Cup beaten 2-1 by Oldbridge (Clonmel) in the latter stages of the FAI Youths competition.
1986/87 - T his was a great year for Turnpike Youths.  Their first final was the Shield final against their neighbours Hermitage.  At the interval "The Tage" led 3-0 and things looked bleak for "The Pike" A hat trick in the second half for Brian Pyne brought the game to extra time and Brian completed his tally to four in the second period of extra time to 4 to give Turnpike victory.  Their next final was the Munster Clare area final but they were beaten 5-3 on penalties by Kilrush.  Next came the Clare area final where they beat Newmarket Celtic 6-1.  They also won the Youths league loosing only I game in the process and that was to Lifford.  Five members of the team were selected for the Clare Oscar Traynor youth's panel.  Brian Pyne scored twice in Clare's 4-3 defeat of Tipperary.
1987/88 - Youths Cup & League. FAI Clare area final, Munster Youths Cup Clare area final.
1990/91 - Youths Cup
1991/92 - Youths league & Munster youth's Clare area.
1992/93 - Won Munster Youth's Clare area, lost Munster youth's final against Oldbridge (Clonmel) & lost youth's cup to Lifford.

1985 - U12 league
1986 - U14 league
1991 - U16 league
1996 - U11 Cup
1998 - Beaten in U11 Cup final by Cloughleigh Celtic  

"More facts about the Pike"

In the 1984/85 season Turnpike Rovers had the distinction of having two of their players named "players" of the year for Clare Soccer.  They were Colm Fitzgerald & Derek McGann who was named "youth's player of the year".  Over the years Turnpike Rovers had always a representative on the Clare Oscar Traynor team.  In that season Brain Pyne was a starter in all Clare games.
