Pitch Location:-
Cravens, Scariff - As you enter Scariff from Tuamgraney, turn up the hill
onto the main street. Follow this road all the way through the town. Carry
on past the GAA pitch on your left and past the church. Take the turning
on the left immediately after the church and before the school. The pitch
is 500m up on the right just after the hurling training pitch. This is the

MOUNTSHANNON
CELTIC FC was
formed in July 1990 following a meeting of interested people, in Paddy
Bugler's Bar, Mountshannon. Mike Nash and Liam Waterstone undertook the
work in the formation of the club. Indeed without the generosity of the
latter Mountshannon Celtic would not exist today. A senior team was
entered in the third division of the Clare and District Soccer League and
won their first game beating Corofin 2-1 in Mountshannon. Since that time
the senior team has moved up the divisions and is now with the top teams
in the county.
In the first
season an under 14 team was organised and competed equally with teams from
all over Clare. Over the years many Mountshannon players have been
selected for the Clare Schoolboys Soccer League panel with the following
representing Clare at inter county level: Michael and Patrick Moroney,
Barry O'Halloran, Jason Horan, Paul Dooley, Colm Madden, Stephen McGuire,
Tomas MacNamara, Robert Slater, Manus McGuire, Cillin MacNamara, Paul
O’Rourke, Eoin Quirke, Eoin MacMahon, and Samuel Slater. The club draws on
membership from Whitegate, Mountshannon, Scariff, Tuamgraney, Bodyke,
Feakle and Ogonelloe
The club has
achieved notable success at underage level
1991-92 U14 cup
winners
1992-93 U14 cup runners up
1993-94 U15 cup winners
1994-95 U16 cup runners up
2005-06 U11 Division 3 winners
This success can
be attributed to the hard work of people like Liam Waterstone and Liam
Glass who have successfully coached and nurtured the underage teams over
the years with many players now playing for the Senior team and a number
having been offered trials for English clubs. Due to other commitments,
Liam and Liam have now passed the running of the underage section over to
Clive Slater and Gary Dear. As a result of hard work by a number of
committed parents, a large schoolboy and schoolgirl section has been
constituted. This has seen an increase in child participation in the club
so that there are now approximately 100 children in 4 squads. At times
this has proved very tough going, particularly against some of the larger
Ennis clubs, but the players continue to improve all the time and in
2005-2006 the club achieved it’s first schoolboy league title. In 2008
for the first time, Mountshannon entered an all girls team in blitzes at
Lees Road Ennis.
The club has
always had a membership policy encouraging involvement and enthusiasm
above ability.
